3 hour Studio-Style Drawing Session with Margaret Best
Cost: $50 Members $60 Non Members
Wednesday Evening, May 16, 2012 : 5.30 pm – 8.30 pm
This studio-style drawing session is aimed at getting beginners started, helping more experienced artists get drawing again or helping artists hone their drawing ability.
Whether you wish to develop better drawing skills or you want to prepare for later painted plant studies, Margaret will assist with observation skills and deal with elements such as perspective and proportion.
The subject matter will, of course, be botanical with material available locally, or any other subjects you wish to portray. The time may be spent freely drawing ~or~ following some specific aspect of drawing under Margaret’s guidance.
Margaret Best is both a professional teacher and an artist with the ability to “get people going” in botanicals whether you are a rank beginner or an advanced painter. (www.bestbotanical.com)
Drawing is a fundamental skill that requires regular exercising regardless of artistic experience or ability.
The greatest painters in recorded history all practiced their drawing skills over and over to maintain keen observation levels and the necessary interpretation of perspective and proportion to their works.
Fortunately many of the drawings of Leonardo da Vinci and Rembrandt for example have been well preserved and are enduring testimonials to the fact that a significant number of them were not preparatory drawings for later painted masterpieces but were part of their regime to staying artistically “fit”. And, these drawings are no lesser lasting treasures of their remarkable level of competence than their incredible oil paintings. The drawings that were developed into paintings give us a wonderful insight into their planning processes for their final masterpieces.SUGGESTED MATERIALS: Sketch Book 8.5 “ x 11” or larger Magnifier Divider and ruler for measuring Eraser Graphite Pencil 2H, H, HB, 2B & pencil sharpener Mechanical pencil 0.3 with refills (optional) Drawing board (optional)
